Energy Saving

First day-16th January 2023

The first day started with the welcome of the participants by the management of the institution and the presentation of the school.
Then, the presentation of the teams took place, and the host partner informed the participants of the program of activities for this week.
The first activity was "Energy and the Environment" and was carried out by biology teacher, Seval FAKILAR. Students created a tree of ideas starting from the word "energy". Through this activity, the students identified the main energy sources, compared the impact of different types of energy on the environment, and were aware of the need to switch from traditional energy sources to green ones.

Then there was a presentation of energy sources (renewable and non-renewable) and each team presented one energy source, arguing the advantages and disadvantages of each.
2 representatives of the team from Romania presented "Water Energy", highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of hydropower and its impact on the environment.
The team from Dortyol presented geothermal energy (what it is, where it can be found, how it can be used, the advantages and disadvantages of its use).
Then, the team from Latvia brought wind energy to the attention of the participants, highlighting why it is so important, its advantages and disadvantages.
The last presentations were by the host team about biomass energy and solar energy.

The first day ended with 2 informal meetings with District Governor Mustafa Sefa DEMİRYÜREK and Educational District Governor Ali HAYTAZ.
In the meeting with the governor of the Hatay region, we presented our project and discussed aspects of waste management in Iskenderun and the Hatay region (Iskenderun being one of the largest ports in Turkey, with an intense economic activity, generating waste). In the meeting with the educational governor, the Turkish educational system was discussed, comparing it with that of Romania and Latvia, with an emphasis on the importance of Erasmus-type extracurricular activities in the educational development of students and teachers.
