-Reusing (The second step of sustainability)

Fourth day-5th October 2022

The fourth day started with the activity "What are reusables?".

The activity was carried out using the "I know-I want to learn-I learned" method and was coordinated by the biology teacher of the host school. In the "I learned" part, students worked in mixed teams and wrote a collaborative story (narrative) about what can happen to a jar of chocolate.

The students received the beginning of the story: "In the year 2022, there was a jar of chocolate on a supermarket shelf."

The first team had 15 minutes to write the first paragraph, the second team continued and so on until the end. After finishing the story, team 1 created the story in Canva, team 2 took care of the design, and a team drew the story.

Thus, the final product of the activity resulted: "The Magic Jar".

The students from teams 3 and 4 started to create in the Canva program a collaborative magazine "Before" and "After" reuse, using the pictures they had to take in the stage preceding the LTT, but also the photos taken until now.

Then, we went to the Getliņi EKO landfill (the largest landfill in the Balkan region).

The landfill manages solid household waste, biodegradable waste, production and construction waste generated in the Mid-Latvia waste management region. Ms. Anda Zandberga, the presenter, talked about the differences between landfill and landfill, sorting waste in landfill and everyday, processing biodegradable waste, reusing different types of items, the relationship between landfill operation and the circular economy, statistics on waste management in Latvia, etc. .

They worked in groups and solved tasks related to waste management and self-assessed through a test.
