Learning, Teaching, Training Activity 3
-Reusing (The second step of sustainability)
First day-2nd October 2022
The first day started with the welcome of the participants and the presentation of the school. After that, the teams introduced themselves and the host partner presented the program of activities.
Then, the biology teacher Ms. Anda Keruk gave a presentation on the differences between recycling and reuse and then organized a debate on the theme "Recycling vs. Reuse".
This debate was based on a given case study centered on the saying "one person's trash can be another's treasure". Next, the students worked in mixed teams, each team answering one question and creating 4 mind maps in the Canva application, guided by their teachers.
The team answered the question "What are the benefits of reuse?"; team B created a mental map of what can be reused/reused; team C wrote synonyms for the word "reuse", and team D answered the question "Why recycling and reuse are important?". Then, one representative of each team presented the results obtained, the other participants being able to come with additions.
The practical workshop "How to reuse old T-shirts" followed, which was organized by the school's art and craft teacher, Mrs. Eva Case.
Each participant received an old t-shirt and had to choose a template for the model on the t-shirt. Traditional Latvian symbols were used as templates, the host participants having the opportunity to learn about the meaning and importance of traditional Latvian symbols, but also to find that some symbols have the same meaning in their own culture.
Through this workshop, students learned how to reuse an old t-shirt using bleach.
Then, an online meeting was organized with students and teachers from the partner schools. The mind maps and new t-shirts were featured in a Zoom lesson "Recycling vs. Reuse". 53 students from Romania, Turkey and Latvia participated in this lesson. Thus, the students disseminated the results of the first day of the LTT C2.
